Old Tyres

Processing old tyres

Introduction

Entire car and lorry tyres are transported by a conveyor belt to a shredder, where the tyres are cut into small pieces of 5 cm.

Crushing

A further conveyor belt transports the pieces to a refrigeration chamber, where they are frozen with gaseous nitrogen to a temperature of below minus 100 degrees Celsius. The brittle pieces subsequently go to a hammer mill, where the material is broken down to rubber granulate, steel and textile fibres.

Sorting

The material is sorted, whereby the steel and pieces of fibre go for recycling and the rubber granulate remains.

Storage/ Transport

The rubber granulate is stored in tubs and subsequently put into sacks. Steel and textile fibres are loaded into containers and taken to the recycling stations.
