Synthetic Materials

Synthetic material waste consists mainly of disposable packing material and is high value fuel. It is predominantly used in the cement industry, but also added to the combustion in conventional incinerators.

Handling

Synthetic material waste has irregular qualities and different origins, which makes the specification of these fuels complicated. Furthermore, the fuel product is not clean and comprises of a considerable amount of fine dust. Therefore, the plants must be dust-tight.

Delivery

This is in containers, by lorry or from internal size-reducing plants. Transportation to the intermediate storage, chain conveyors, pocket or belt conveyors are suitable.

Storage

Synthetic materials are stored in bins with thrust floor discharge or in stack silos with flat floors and the appropriate discharge devices.

Conveyance

To be able to feed the metered fuel for combustion, pneumatic or mechanical conveyance is necessary, depending on the configuration of the plant. For mechanical conveyance, chain conveyors, bucket elevators, screw conveyors and belt conveyors are suitable. For longer distances (50 to 400 m) pneumatic conveyance systems are also suitable.

Injection into the combustion chamber is achieved pneumatically with a continuous flow volume, defined by the customer. The product feed is through a hopper with agitator and a rotary valve. Special attention must be given to the pipe run and the materials used. For the proportioning, metering belt scales or rotary scales are very well suited, with the appropriate configuration for the product. Consideration must also be given to the system most appropriate for the removal of dust (aspiration).

Metering with Rotary Scales

For some years, a completely new metering system, with coordinated function units, has been developed. It has been optimized for many different secondary fuels and successfully proven over a longer period of time.
The following main requirements have been placed on metering of the secondary fuel:

  • Safe handling of the secondary fuel
  • Universal application for different secondary fuels
  • High short time accuracy
  • Long service life
  • Easy maintenance
  • Redundant function control
  • Optional in pressure shock resistant construction
